Watch your Back over Christmas!

Christmas time can often be hard work on your back. Common ways of hurting your back are:

  • Carrying heavy shopping
  • Lifting the turkey out of the oven
  • Putting up the Christmas tree
  • Getting things out of the loft
  • Wrapping presents on the floor
  • Sitting too long slouched on the sofa

So, no matter how busy you are …. remember your back! Some ways to avoid hurting yourself are:

  • If you are bending to pick something up, like the turkey out of the oven, bend your knees and do not twist or overreach
  • If you have a lot to carry balance the weight either side, use a backpack and make several trips
  • Wrap your presents sitting at a table
  • Keep active. Go for lots of walks even if it is just around the block
  • If you have been on your feet all day give yourself a break and do this regularly through out the day. Just 5 minutes lying down several times a day can really help the muscles relax and reduce the chance of getting back pain.
If you do hurt yourself over Christmas, we are open at the practice as normal except for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when we are closed.

You can book in online or phone the practice on 01788 560646.
