Back Pain caused by Long Distance Driving?

Back Pain caused by Long Distance Driving?

Whether you drive for a living or have to spend long time in your car in your free time you may have noticed stiffness or even pain in your back and muscles. Adam has listed three easy solutions for back pain caused by long distance driving.

1.  Are You Sitting Comfortably?
Recline your seat back a little. Having your seat upright with your back and legs at 90 degrees increases the pressure on discs in your back. Changing the recline on the seat and adjusting the lumbar support will help stop the back muscles cramping. Also try constantly fidgeting around when driving but come back to a symmetrical position.

2.  Are You Dancing?
When you make a stop get moving, warm your back muscles up, walk around, do some simple exercises or jog around. Don’t just sit down in another chair and drink tea. Most importantly, if you are helping with unloading, warm up first. The most common reason I see lorry drivers is when they jump out of the truck after sitting for hours and start heavy manual work.

3.  How fit are you?
The dreaded word "exercise". The bottom line is the fitter you are the less back pain you get. Having the time is always the problem with long distance lorry drives but I have had some success getting patients to do exercise videos when they are at home. Contact us and we are happy to advice you with exercises.

It seems that the video you have attached has been blocked on YouTube. Can you recommend another exercise video on YouTube please. Although not a lorry driver I drive for very long distances. Erica recommended this blog
